Summer Intern Data Researcher Overview

As a Summer Intern Data Researcher at BAE Systems, you will have the chance to work on a variety of data science research initiatives that serve customers in the defense, security, and commercial sectors. This role is based in Great Baddow, Essex, and is part of the Digital Intelligence team.

Your responsibilities will include collaborating with multidisciplinary teams within the Data Applied Research group, focusing on advanced topics such as reinforcement learning, natural language processing, knowledge graphs, AI for radio frequency and electronic warfare, sonar, and acoustics. You will engage in innovative research, often in partnership with leading universities, and will be tasked with developing prototypes and proof of concept demonstrations, as well as preparing technical reports and proposals.

To qualify for this internship, you should have achieved, or be predicted to achieve, at least a 2:2 in a relevant STEM undergraduate degree, such as Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, Electronic/Electrical/Aerospace Engineering, or Physics. A Master’s degree in an AI-related field would be beneficial for future graduate roles. Additionally, you must demonstrate a keen interest in applied AI research.

The internship is set to begin on June 21, 2027, and will last for 12 weeks. The position offers a competitive salary of £25,900 (pro-rata) and allows for hybrid working arrangements, with an expectation to be on-site 3-5 days per week.
