The Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Stroke Consultant Physician with a special interest in rehabilitation to join its expanding stroke team. This role is pivotal in enhancing Hyper Acute Stroke Care and supporting the development of a shared care model for stroke patients between Dorset and Somerset. The Trust serves approximately 250,000 residents in West Dorset and is located in the picturesque town of Dorchester, close to the renowned Jurassic Coast.

The successful candidate will be responsible for providing comprehensive stroke care, including both in-patient and out-patient services for patients with suspected strokes or TIAs. The role involves participation in clinical governance activities, including audits and research, to ensure the highest standards of patient care are maintained. Additionally, the consultant will contribute to a 24-hour acute stroke service, participate in weekend and holiday ward rounds, and provide clinical advice for community stroke services.

As part of the role, the consultant will also engage in continuing medical education and teaching for medical students and junior doctors, while contributing to the development of clinical quality and effectiveness in related areas.

Requirements

  • An appropriate higher medical qualification, such as MRCP or an equivalent.
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice.
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register via CCT, CESR, or European Community Rights.
  • A minimum of five years of clinical experience in stroke medicine.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the demands of a DGH based Consultant role.
  • Evidence of clinical skills relevant to the specialty.
  • Leadership and service development experience.
  • Understanding of clinical governance with experience in audit and research.
  • General management training and skills.
  • Teaching experience and effective communication abilities.
