The Ads Foundational Representations (AFR) team is focused on developing signals and representations for Reddit’s core entities, such as ads, posts, and users. This team is dedicated to creating embeddings that capture the semantic, contextual, and behavioral information necessary for effective advertising on Reddit. The team works on various aspects, including multimodal content embeddings, contextual relevance, knowledge graph embeddings, user intent modeling, and LLM-based representations.

As a Staff Machine Learning Engineer, you will play a crucial role in setting the technical direction for multiple projects within the team. Your responsibilities will include leading cross-functional machine learning projects from business analysis to engineering execution, with a focus on both technical leadership and hands-on work.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to MLEs in the team, focusing on design reviews and best practices.
• Collaborate with leadership to develop a technical strategy for content-based embeddings and relevance.
• Develop and iterate on embedding models for advertising use cases.
• Work with local and third-party LLMs/VLMs to extract representations and develop evaluation methodologies.
• Build data processing and inference pipelines for developed models.
• Conduct qualitative and quantitative evaluations of features, including end-to-end experimentation.
• Ensure the reliability and performance of ML systems through automated tests and monitoring.
• Participate in modeling and coding reviews, providing feedback to ensure quality standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions.

Required Qualifications

• 7+ years of hands-on experience in the full lifecycle of machine learning model development.
• Demonstrated staff-level technical leadership and mentoring experience.
• Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts.
• Strong background in content-rich NLP/CV problems and using embeddings.
• Data-driven approach to ML system development.
• Familiarity with the advertising domain and/or search/recommender systems.
• Experience with deep learning frameworks like PyTorch or TensorFlow.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Python, Pytorch, Airflow, BigQuery, Ray, Kubernetes, Kafka, and GCP.
• Tech leadership experience and hands-on experience with LLMs.
