Apollo Research is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to join our Infrastructure and Security team in either London or San Francisco. In this role, you will play a crucial part in designing, implementing, and deploying security controls that ensure the safety and integrity of our operations. You will be responsible for building a security layer for novel insider risks and making secure practices the default for all users.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and manage Apollo’s essential security controls, including identity and access management, infrastructure and cloud security, endpoint management, and incident response.
- Create secure pathways that make the secure option the default and most accessible choice for all users.
- Promote and establish security best practices throughout the organization, fostering the necessary trust for their adoption and clearly communicating security decisions and trade-offs.
- Assess and evaluate vendors and tools, making informed decisions on whether to build or buy security infrastructure, and review vendor security postures prior to adoption.
- Lead significant security projects from conception through to implementation and deployment.
- Collaboratively define and prioritize the security roadmap and initiatives.
Requirements
- A minimum of 5 years of experience in security roles with a hands-on technical focus, rather than solely in governance, risk, and compliance.
- Ability to think critically about threat modeling and potential failure modes.
- Proficiency in reading code, understanding infrastructure, and evaluating technical controls.
- An engineering mindset, treating security as an engineering challenge and being capable of creating custom solutions when necessary.
- A focus on automation and systems-level thinking to enhance security, with comfort in utilizing AI to expedite development.
- Direct experience in application security, cloud security, or product security, ideally having significantly influenced the security posture of an organization handling sensitive customer data.
- Proven ability to influence others without direct authority, successfully gaining buy-in for security practices from non-security personnel.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced startup environment with the ability to adapt to changing priorities and work diligently when required.
Benefits
- Competitive salary and equity options.
- Salary range: $214,000 â $280,000 for San Francisco; £144,000 â £189,000 for London, with plans for salary increases soon.
- Unlimited token budget for compute resources to achieve better results.
- Flexible working hours and schedules.
- Unlimited vacation and sick leave.
- Up to 6 months of paid parental leave.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
- Retirement savings plan with competitive employer matching.
- Provision of lunch, dinner, and snacks on workdays.
- Paid work-related travel, including retreats, business trips, and conferences.
- Annual professional development budget of $1,000.
- Relocation assistance and coverage of visa fees if applicable.
This is a full-time, onsite position that offers a dynamic work environment and the opportunity to make a significant impact in the field of security within the rapidly evolving AI landscape.
