ExxonMobil is offering an exciting opportunity through its UK Industrial Placement Scheme, designed for university students to apply their academic knowledge in a practical setting. This program allows participants to gain confidence and experience while developing new skills in a real operational environment.

As part of the Industrial Placement, you will engage in various engineering projects that will contribute to your team’s success. Responsibilities may include conducting onsite inspections, developing repair plans for critical equipment, troubleshooting plant issues, and providing technical support for daily operations. You may also be involved in designing new equipment to enhance safety, efficiency, and reliability within the plants. From day one, you will be entrusted with real responsibilities and will benefit from a supportive learning environment that fosters both technical and professional development.

The placement will take place at the Fawley Petrochemical Complex or the nearby Hythe Fuel Terminal. Fawley is the largest integrated petrochemical complex in the UK, covering 3,250 acres and employing around 2,500 staff and contractors. It serves as a manufacturing hub and is also home to ExxonMobil UK’s commercial headquarters.

We are seeking engineers who possess strong technical fundamentals and a practical, results-oriented mindset. Ideal candidates will be curious, resilient, and proactive problem solvers who thrive in a manufacturing environment. The ability to adapt quickly, challenge constructively, and simplify complex problems while collaborating with operations and engineering teams is highly valued. While academic performance is important, we also seek individuals who are motivated to take ownership of their work and drive improvements.

To qualify for this role, candidates must be pursuing a minimum of a 2:1 Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering and be looking for a 13-month Industrial Placement starting in July 2027. Strong personal effectiveness, leadership potential, and the ability to influence outcomes through collaboration are essential. We also welcome applications from students in other engineering disciplines, provided they include context about their degree in their cover letter.

If you are interested in this opportunity, please apply by the closing date of Sunday, 25th October 2026. The selection process will include a behavioral assessment and a technical competency-based interview. Successful candidates will receive a conditional offer of employment, contingent upon satisfactory background checks and verification of qualifications.

ExxonMobil is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will be considered for employment. We encourage candidates to reach out to the Recruitment Team if they require any specific accommodations during the recruitment process.
