OpenTable is seeking a Director of Engineering to oversee the Global Partnerships engineering organization, which includes Solutions Engineering, Integrations, and API Platform. This position requires a blend of product engineering insight, technical expertise, customer understanding, and operational discipline to enhance our partnership ecosystem.

The Director will lead teams focused on partner integrations and API platform capabilities, collaborating closely with various departments such as Product, Partnerships, RSS, Support, Security, and Legal to translate partner and business needs into robust platform capabilities. This role is suited for a leader adept at navigating both strategic and executional aspects, including setting direction, simplifying operational models, prioritizing effectively, guiding architectural decisions, managing high-severity escalations, and developing managerial and senior technical talent.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the strategy and portfolio for partner integrations, APIs, developer experience, and Solutions Engineering, making informed trade-offs between business value, partner commitments, reliability, and capacity.
  • Establish a scalable Solutions Engineering model that includes disciplined intake, prioritization, escalation processes, service level agreements (SLAs), and effective communication.
  • Collaborate with support, RSS, and other cross-functional teams to identify and create a better operating model.
  • Direct the technical strategy for the API Platform and Integrations, focusing on how agentic development can enhance the developer experience for both internal and external developers.
  • Transform recurring issues and gaps identified by partners into sustainable improvements in product offerings, processes, and documentation.
  • Foster strong relationships across various departments including Partnerships, RSS, Product, Support, Security, Legal, and Engineering.
  • Make timely decisions when faced with conflicting priorities and clearly communicate outcomes, risks, and trade-offs.
  • Lead and mentor managers and senior technical leaders, enhancing delegation and succession planning, while demonstrating results to expand the organization’s scope.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in leading engineering organizations that encompass multiple teams and managers.
  • Proficiency with APIs, distributed systems, platform engineering, developer experience, integrations, or other complex B2B ecosystems.
  • Proven success in establishing prioritization, escalation, and operational mechanisms in high-demand environments.
  • Strong product judgment with the ability to differentiate between one-off requests and repeatable product or platform opportunities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, capable of engaging effectively with executives, engineers, partners, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • A history of hiring, coaching, and developing managers and senior engineers.
  • Sufficient technical knowledge to review architecture, ask insightful questions, assess risks, and make sound trade-offs without being the primary implementer.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a marketplace, B2B SaaS, platform, developer products, payments, hospitality, commerce, or integration-heavy business.
  • Experience leading or partnering closely with Solutions Engineering, Professional Services, Customer Engineering, Technical Account Management, or similar functions.
  • Experience transitioning a high-touch onboarding or support model to self-service, automation, AI-assisted support, or risk-based engagement.
  • Experience driving productivity, innovation, and operational improvements using AI development tooling.
  • Experience working with external partners, enterprise customers, sales, business development, security, legal, or revenue operations.
  • Strong background in data-driven decision making, metrics definition, and performance optimization for high-scale enterprise platforms.
  • Experience with API lifecycle management, OAuth/SSO, developer portals, certification, SDKs, event-driven systems, observability, or partner data access.
  • Experience operating across globally distributed teams and time zones.

Benefits and Perks

  • Five weeks of paid vacation.
  • Private health and dental insurance.
  • Ability to work from almost anywhere for up to 20 days per year.
  • Focus on mental health and well-being with company-paid therapy sessions through SpringHealth.

  • Free lunch provided two days a week.

This position operates under a hybrid work model, requiring attendance in the office two days a week, allowing for both in-person collaboration and flexibility.
