AI Security Researcher Overview

Apollo Research is seeking talented AI Security Researchers to join our Infrastructure & Security Team in either London or San Francisco. In this role, you will be at the forefront of identifying and addressing both traditional and novel security threats posed by AI agents, ensuring the integrity of our operations and the trust of our partners.

Responsibilities

• Oversee the security of Apollo’s internal systems and surfaces.
• Conduct red-team exercises on internal software, infrastructure, and AI agent access controls and monitoring.
• Develop realistic attack scenarios to test security measures.
• Create solutions for new or emerging threats in the AI security domain where existing guidelines may not apply.
• Establish and maintain high standards for the organization’s security posture.
• Monitor and analyze adversary tactics, techniques, and campaigns relevant to Apollo’s threat landscape, translating this intelligence into effective detection strategies.
• Take ownership of security findings and ensure they are addressed and resolved effectively.
• Design and implement durable security controls, including checks, tests, defaults, and detection mechanisms.
• Collaborate with engineering teams to socialize security measures and ensure high standards of remediation.

Requirements

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in security roles with a hands-on technical focus, rather than purely governance, risk, and compliance.
• Ability to think critically about threat modeling and identify potential failure modes.
• Proficiency in reading and understanding code, infrastructure, and evaluating technical security controls.
• Direct experience in offensive security practices, including threat modeling and red teaming.
• Familiarity with application security or cloud security environments.
• Experience in significantly contributing to the security posture of an organization or product handling sensitive customer data.
• An engineering mindset, treating security as an engineering challenge and capable of translating findings into actionable fixes and controls.
• Prioritization of automation and systems-level thinking to enhance security measures, with comfort in utilizing AI for development acceleration.
• Adaptability to a fast-paced startup environment, with a willingness to navigate ambiguity and changing priorities.
• Strong written communication skills for producing clear and precise documentation, including threat models and reports.

Working Pattern

This is an onsite role based in either our London or San Francisco office, with flexible working hours available.
