Join the dedicated team at Whittington Hospital NHS Trust as a Band 5 Staff Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to provide specialized care to neonates from 27 weeks gestation in a supportive and family-centered environment.

Job Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care for a designated group of neonates under the indirect supervision of a Band 6 or 7 nurse.
  • Carry out relevant care programs independently while cooperating with other disciplines to meet the needs of the baby and family.
  • Facilitate family-centered care by providing information and support to families, enabling them to care for their baby in the neonatal environment.
  • Participate in the implementation of new research-based ideas to enhance the quality of care.
  • Plan and deliver patient care that is safe, professional, compassionate, and consistent with established standards.
  • Ensure compliance with the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and Whittington Health policies and guidelines.
  • Attend study days and provide feedback to the NICU while maintaining professional knowledge in neonatal care.
  • Engage in practical teaching for Foundations in Neonatal Care learners, midwifery, and student nurses.
  • Assist in creating a conducive learning environment for all staff and participate in the orientation of new team members.
  • Maintain effective communication with the NICU Sister or deputy regarding patient care matters and report any incidents or complaints to the Ward Manager.

Requirements

  • Registered Nurse (RN) qualification is essential.
  • Experience in caring for low dependency patients with moderate supervision is required.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills and the ability to organize one’s own work are necessary.
  • Awareness of personal limitations and the ability to plan, implement, and evaluate care are essential.
  • Knowledge of current issues in the NHS and understanding of neonatal care principles are desirable.
  • Potential for caring for stable high dependency neonates is preferred.
