We are excited to announce a permanent position for a dedicated and organized Specialist Speech and Language Therapist focusing on Communication Disorders within County Durham. This role involves working with children and young people who have Developmental Communication Disorders, and it is essential for the candidate to be passionate about enhancing health outcomes for clients.

The successful applicant will be a vital member of the multi-disciplinary team, collaborating closely with health professionals, partner organizations, parents, and caregivers. The role requires excellent communication skills and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team across various settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement strategies for managing a specialist caseload, including assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and discharge of clients with complex communication difficulties, under the guidance of a lead clinician.
  • Provide expert advice to Autism Diagnostic Teams to assist in diagnosing children with social communication challenges.
  • Independently handle and coordinate complex cases, including referrals to specialized clinicians or support agencies.
  • Offer education, training, and supervision to less experienced speech and language therapy staff and assistants.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care protocols and make necessary adjustments in collaboration with the lead clinician.
  • Assess the impact of communication difficulties on the psychological well-being of clients.
  • Collaborate with lead clinicians to enhance service delivery and develop policies for the client group.

Requirements

  • A degree or equivalent qualification in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Current registration to practice as a Speech and Language Therapist.
  • Knowledge of NHS and educational policies, as well as clinical guidelines related to social communication difficulties and Autism.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively under pressure.
  • Experience as a Speech and Language Therapist, particularly with clients experiencing social communication disorders.
  • Experience working collaboratively with children and their families.
