The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Specialised Clinical Physiologist to join our Neurophysiology Department. Our team is committed to providing high-quality neurodiagnostic services and improving patient care. The role involves working across multiple sites, including New Cross Hospital, Cannock Chase Hospital, and Shawbirch Medical Practice, so the ability to travel is preferred.

As a Specialised Clinical Physiologist, you will be supported by four Neurophysiology Consultants and will have the opportunity to gain experience in a dynamic environment. We encourage participation in audits, research, and continuous professional development (CPD). The successful candidate will perform a variety of inpatient and outpatient investigations, including:

  • Clinical Physiologist-led nerve conduction studies and reporting
  • Routine EEG and ambulatory video EEG
  • Evoked potentials (EPs)
  • Assisting with EMG clinics

Main Duties

The postholder will be responsible for a wide range of clinical neurophysiological investigations, working independently to support patient diagnosis and care. Key responsibilities include:

  • Performing routine, sleep, and ambulatory EEG recordings, as well as nerve conduction studies and evoked potentials.
  • Producing clear and accurate reports based on findings.
  • Supervising and training trainee staff and other professionals.
  • Engaging in clinical audits, research, and service evaluation to enhance service delivery.
  • Maintaining compliance with health and safety regulations and clinical governance procedures.
  • Ensuring effective communication with patients and their families throughout their visit.

Person Specification

Essential qualifications include a BSc (Hons) in Clinical Physiology (Neurophysiology) or equivalent training, along with practical experience in neurophysiology investigations. Candidates should demonstrate sensitivity and understanding towards patients with various medical and psychological conditions. Supervisory experience and evidence of continuous professional development are desirable.
