Join Creative Assembly as a Senior Build Tools Engineer and play a pivotal role in enhancing the architecture of our build systems, toolchain, CI, and automated testing infrastructure that supports all Total War development teams. This position is crucial for improving developer productivity, CI stability, build cadence, and automation reliability, enabling the studio to manage multiple large-scale projects across various platforms.

In this high-impact role, you will collaborate closely with build engineers, tools programmers, test automation teams, IT, QA, and various game teams throughout the studio. As a senior engineer, you will lead initiatives, set technical standards, mentor colleagues, and serve as a point of escalation for complex infrastructure issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the evolution of CA’s multi-project build pipelines, including pre-submit, post-submit, and scheduled tests for console and PC workflows.
  • Define and enhance CI reliability, error detection, logging standards, and quality guardrails within CI processes.
  • Develop and maintain deployment pipelines that ensure consistent and repeatable releases to internal teams, QA, and external platforms.
  • Design and manage backend services such as build storage infrastructure, symbol servers, archiving systems, and dashboards to meet studio demands.
  • Write and review production-ready code primarily in C++ and C#, ensuring high standards of quality, maintainability, and testing.
  • Participate in a rotating weekly support responder role to address build and test issues across all infrastructure channels.
  • Establish key metrics and dashboards to identify issues early, track reliability trends, and demonstrate measurable improvements.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks in hardware utilization, storage strategies, CI capacity, and build roadmaps.
  • Support fellow engineers by contributing to knowledge sharing, documentation, and enhanced engineering practices.
  • Collaborate with the test automation team to integrate quality gates into CI workflows for prompt feedback to development teams.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience in designing, operating, and enhancing build systems, CI/CD pipelines, or DevOps platforms at scale.
  • Proficient programming skills in C++, along with C# or a similar scripting language.
  • Strong debugging capabilities across complex multi-component systems.
  • Experience with console automation for platforms such as PS5 and Xbox.
  • Familiarity with online store APIs like Steam and Microsoft.
  • Knowledge of version control systems such as Perforce in large team settings.
  • Understanding of branching strategies applicable in large-scale, multi-project environments.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to influence across various disciplines and engineering leadership.
  • Ability to balance hands-on technical tasks with broader architectural considerations.

Benefits

  • Work from Anywhere for a limited period each year (certain restrictions apply).
  • Enhanced holiday allowance, maternity and paternity leave, flexible core hours, and no-notice holidays.
  • Performance-based discretionary bonus scheme.
  • Bespoke relocation package for you and your dependents.
  • Private medical and dental insurance, life insurance, and free health care screenings.
  • Additional perks including free games, work parties, and discounts on technology.
  • Wellbeing support and access to virtual confidential counseling.
