Principal Product Engineer Overview

Join Tripadvisor as a Principal Product Engineer, where you will leverage your engineering expertise and product instincts to drive impactful changes across our technology stack. The Tripadvisor Experiences Engineering team, which operates throughout Europe, is responsible for our platform and mobile applications, providing essential tools for operators and customer service teams to deliver exceptional service to travelers.

In this role, you will:

• Identify, scope, and implement changes that positively impact business metrics across mobile, web, services, and data layers.
• Design and architect robust systems that perform reliably under production conditions, ensuring performance, scalability, and consistency.
• Lead technical design reviews across various teams, evaluating trade-offs in terms of code quality, product impact, and operational costs.
• Enhance operational maturity by improving release management, observability, incident response, and performance monitoring, particularly in mobile applications.
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineering leaders to define what to build and the priorities for development.
• Set a high technical standard within the organization by demonstrating best practices, creating prototypes, and mentoring others.
• Effectively communicate technical trade-offs to engineers, product partners, and senior stakeholders.

We are looking for candidates who meet the following qualifications:

• A minimum of 10 years of software development experience, with a strong emphasis on hands-on coding and a proven track record of delivering impactful products from start to finish.
• In-depth knowledge of the mobile app ecosystem, particularly iOS and/or Android, with proficiency in Swift and/or Kotlin, as well as related technologies such as offline sync, push notifications, authentication, persistence, and networking.
• Demonstrated experience in at least one additional area such as web frontend, backend services, data infrastructure, or platform tooling, alongside mobile development.
• Strong product judgment with the ability to make informed decisions about product features and justify those decisions with data.
• Ability to troubleshoot production issues across various technology stacks, including crash analysis and performance debugging.
• Excellent collaboration skills, with a focus on enhancing the capabilities of team members.
