As a Principal Product Data Scientist at Tripadvisor, you will be the leading technical authority in the Product Data Science team. Your role will involve shaping the vision and technical direction of the team while driving strategic impact through innovative analytical solutions. This position requires a blend of technical expertise and collaborative skills, emphasizing leadership, communication, and cross-functional influence.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the strategy for Data Science within the Product team, ensuring that advanced analytics and AI methodologies are integral to product development and customer experience enhancement.
• Act as a strategic advisor to senior leadership in Product and Engineering, embedding data-driven decision-making at the highest organizational levels.
• Develop and promote next-generation data science tools, platforms, and frameworks focused on automation, scalability, and reproducibility.
• Explore and integrate emerging AI technologies, identifying high-impact use cases from proof of concept to production.
• Promote best practices in experimentation, causal inference, and uplift modeling to ensure statistical rigor in decision-making.
• Manage complex analytical projects, translating ambiguous questions into clear, actionable recommendations that provide commercial and customer value.
• Mentor and develop Data Scientists and Analysts, fostering a culture of critical thinking and continuous learning.
• Initiate projects to enhance impact through automation and democratization of data science capabilities.
• Create sophisticated customer segmentation and predictive models to inform and optimize the product roadmap.
• Effectively communicate complex analytical concepts to diverse audiences, influencing stakeholders across various teams.

Skills and Experience

• Significant experience in data science or a related quantitative role, with a proven ability to support and influence product organizations.
• Expertise in Python and SQL, with extensive hands-on experience in statistical modeling and various machine learning techniques.
• Ability to define and operationalize key product metrics from the ground up.
• Demonstrated strategic influence through proactive collaboration and effective communication of complex insights to cross-functional partners.
• Experience in scaling analytics capabilities and creating automated processes or self-service tools.
• Strong critical thinking skills, with a history of analyzing facts and evidence to form unbiased judgments.
• Exceptional leadership skills, with experience in mentoring and developing teams of analysts or data scientists.
• Outstanding collaboration and communication abilities to engage and inspire cross-functional partners.
• Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Data Science, Engineering, Physics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
