Jedit is another text editor for windows which offers additional features with the extensions or Plugins . The Jedit has the tabbed interface and supports syntax highlighting etc. jEdit has excellent features which is comparable to some of the commercial tools available , jEdit is also free and the complete sourecode is provided under GPL 2.0 license.

Notepad++ is another open source text editor . Some of the features of the Notepad++ is the Multi tab View and syntaxt highlighting for different programming languages.

    I have used Notepad++ for a long time. I still use it for many tasks. But these days I use Vim more than anything. One can use it for many things (not only editing) like calling external apps and applying them to the document and things like that.
