Being a Developer and an Architect myself working on Microsoft technologies for almost 16+ Years, the Microsoft certification exam had always been on my to-do list every year.
My First certification exam was in 2009 on ASP.NET titled Microsoft Certified Technology Specialist(MCTS). From then on, I have been taking up Microsoft certification exams regularly to keep myself updated with the technology.
The Microsoft certification exam on my radar list is the latest Solution Architect Exam on Azure, which I plan to take up in the next few months.
The certification exams provide a kind of confirmation that you know your stuff and that Microsoft has validated your knowledge through some tests. All the certification exams from Microsoft have a renewal date. You will need to pass another Microsoft certification exam if you want to keep your Microsoft certification up-to-date and official. This might be tough and a bit costly for students, individuals, or small developers.
Microsoft Tech Community Blog had recently made some important announcements regarding the certificate renewal process in 2021.

In early February 2021, you’ll be able to renew your role-based and specialty certifications by passing a free renewal assessment on Microsoft Learn. Rather than having to retake scheduled exam(s), the renewal assessment can be completed online on your own time, and anytime within six months before your certification expires. After you pass the renewal assessment, your certification is extended by one additional year from the current expiration date; this can be done annually.Â
Additionally, Microsoft is updating the validity for the role-based specialty certification exam to one year from the date you have passed those certification exams.
