We are seeking a motivated and experienced individual to take on the role of Ward Manager for the Smithfield Level 2 Ward at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital, part of the Breast Cancer Centre of Excellence. This position is ideal for senior nurses looking to advance their leadership and managerial skills while ensuring a high standard of care for patients.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage the nursing team to deliver exceptional patient care.
  • Ensure smooth daily patient flow within the 11-bedded Breast Surgery Ward.
  • Proactively implement audit and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate closely with service leads to meet key targets and realize the service vision.
  • Drive innovation in patient care practices to enhance safety and compassion.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Essential: Registered General Nurse (RGN/RN) with intravenous accreditation.
  • Essential: Completion of a mentorship course or equivalent.
  • Essential: Specialized modules in oncology or surgery.
  • Essential: Evidence of continuing professional development (CPD).
  • Desirable: Degree-level education and leadership training.
  • Essential: Experience coordinating shifts and working in an oncology setting at Band 6 level.
  • Essential: Knowledge of clinical governance issues, including complaint handling and clinical risk management.

  • Ability to recognize deteriorating patients and respond effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and initiative.
