This position presents an exciting opportunity for a skilled and motivated Registered Nurse or Senior Operating Department Practitioner (SODP) to join the Anaesthetics and Recovery Team at Band 6 level. The role is part of an innovative workforce transformation aimed at creating a fully integrated perioperative team, combining previously separate roles to enhance patient care throughout the perioperative journey.
The successful candidate will possess the clinical expertise, leadership skills, and enthusiasm necessary to help shape this new operational model. Working closely with the Band 7 leadership team, the post holder will serve as a role model, aiding in the development of staff who are undertaking the dual-role pathway and assisting new team members in gaining confidence and competence in both Anaesthetic and Recovery practices.
Main Duties
- Provide expert clinical care within both Anaesthetic and Recovery environments.
- Support and supervise staff engaged in dual-role training and competency programs.
- Act as a preceptor, mentor, and role model for newly appointed practitioners.
- Promote patient safety, quality improvement, and best practices across the perioperative pathway.
- Assist with the induction, education, and ongoing professional development of staff.
- Coordinate patient care and support operational flow within the department.
- Lead by example in fostering effective communication, teamwork, and collaborative working across Anaesthetics and Recovery.
- Contribute to workforce development and the successful implementation of the integrated service model.
The role will initially require the post holder to work Monday to Friday for the first 12 to 18 months, with a reduced need for weekend, night, and on-call duties. After the initial phase, the post holder will transition to the standard Band 6 rota, sharing shift work, including nights, weekends, and on-call commitments, in accordance with service requirements.
We are a flexible working-friendly organization and encourage discussions about accommodating flexible working arrangements that suit both the service and the individual.
