We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced Deputy Sister/Charge Nurse to join our dynamic team in the Children’s Emergency Department. This role offers an exciting opportunity to provide clinical expertise and managerial leadership, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Act as a role model, offering guidance, support, and expertise in patient care.
  • Take responsibility for the day-to-day coordination of shifts, ensuring safe and effective care delivery.
  • Ensure that care meets national and local quality and performance standards.
  • Promote an environment that reflects equality, dignity, and respect for all patients and staff.
  • Support the Sister/Charge Nurse in monitoring and improving clinical standards.
  • Participate in and support clinical audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to creating and maintaining a positive and supportive working environment.
  • Act as an advocate for patients at all times to ensure the highest levels of care are delivered.

Qualifications and Skills Required

  • Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
  • Evidence of relevant post-basic study.
  • Able to make judgements based on evidence-based practice and apply this in the ward environment.
  • Demonstrate understanding of current developments in the NHS and their implications for nursing and quality care.
  • Physically capable of performing the role and responsibilities expected of the post holder.
  • Professional and flexible with good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to motivate others and maintain personal motivation.
  • Strong communication skills, especially in difficult situations.

This position is based at St Mary’s Hospital, Parkhurst Road, Newport, Isle of Wight, PO30 5TG, United Kingdom. The salary for this role ranges from £39,959 to £48,117 per annum, pro rata. This is a permanent, full-time position.
