We are currently seeking a Senior Software Engineer I specializing in Backend Java to join our London team in a hybrid working model, requiring at least two days in the office.

About the Role

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering innovative solutions for our internal users. You will work on in-house applications and microservices that are integral to Rightmove’s operations. Our teams operate in an Agile environment, where you will collaborate with design, product, engineering, and testing specialists to ensure we provide high-quality solutions that meet the needs of millions of users and thousands of agents.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build new features and enhancements using Java 21+, Spring Boot, Elasticsearch, Kafka, Gradle, Hibernate, Couchbase, SQL, and Docker.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to shape solutions and align on priorities.
• Take ownership of key technical decisions and deliver projects end-to-end.
• Balance new feature development with technical debt, making thoughtful, pragmatic trade-offs.
• Write high-quality, secure, and extensible code that supports both current needs and future growth.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders and third parties to ensure solutions meet business objectives.
• Champion new and emerging technologies that add value and align with our roadmap.
• Mentor and support junior engineers, helping to build a culture of growth, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates who possess strong commercial experience with Java 21+, Spring Boot, and Kafka. You should have successfully led complex projects and be highly collaborative, organized, and solution-focused. A deep understanding of TDD practices and pipeline optimization is essential, along with the ability to balance technical priorities with business objectives. You should be passionate about performance and scalability, and be proactive in introducing new ideas and technologies to improve team outcomes.
