As a Software Engineer in the PyTorch team at Graphcore, you will play a crucial role in making Graphcore hardware seamlessly integrate with the machine learning frameworks that engineers utilize daily. Your responsibilities will include designing, implementing, optimizing, and supporting features across PyTorch, Triton, and related technologies. This role is pivotal in enhancing the experience of ML engineers and researchers, ensuring they can maximize the potential of Graphcore hardware without altering their development processes.

You will be part of a SCRUM team within the Frameworks department, where you will collaborate closely with software, AI/ML, research, and hardware teams. The culture emphasizes clear ownership, practical decision-making, and open communication. The team values maintainable code, thoughtful design, and a curiosity for exploring new systems. You will have the opportunity to contribute to upstream PyTorch, support hybrid Python and C++ extensions, and integrate compiler backend capabilities with torch.compile.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop software that integrates Graphcore accelerators with leading machine learning frameworks.
• Design, implement, optimize, and support features across PyTorch, Triton, and related technologies.
• Enhance compatibility and performance for ML engineers and researchers using Graphcore hardware.
• Contribute to upstream PyTorch and support hybrid Python and C++ extensions.
• Assist in integrating compiler backend capabilities with torch.compile.
• Engage in problem-solving and build expertise within a large open-source ecosystem.

Requirements

• Demonstrated strong core software engineering skills and a collaborative approach to teamwork.
• Experience in developing Python libraries.
• Proven ability to build high-performance C++ applications in a commercial environment.
• Understanding of linear algebra, floating-point arithmetic, or numerical analysis.
• Proficient in using Git and conducting code reviews in a professional setting.
• Willingness to independently explore large and unfamiliar open-source codebases.
