The Frontier Public Affairs Lead for DeepMind at Google is a pivotal role focused on shaping and executing the public affairs strategy for frontier AI. This position is primarily based in London, with the option of Washington D.C., and is designed for an experienced professional who can effectively communicate and engage with key stakeholders in the technology and policy sectors.
Responsibilities
- Lead the development and implementation of the public affairs strategy for frontier AI, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and policy priorities.
- Create key messaging, policy narratives, and communication materials such as blogs and policy papers to effectively convey Google DeepMind’s approach to safe and responsible frontier AI to government stakeholders.
- Organize and facilitate high-profile events, roundtables, and bilateral meetings to engage with key government, civil society, academic, and technical policy stakeholders.
- Execute multi-channel campaigns to promote objectives related to critical issues such as AI for Science, AI safety frameworks, and resilience.
- Establish and maintain high-trust relationships with policymakers, think tanks, and influential figures, serving as a vital link between external policy discussions and internal strategic initiatives.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience is required.
- At least 14 years of experience in public affairs or communications within the technology sector, particularly in AI.
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in the US, focusing on Policy Communications and Public Affairs.
- At least 1 year of experience working within the frontier AI landscape.
- Preferred: Strong understanding of technology policy with the ability to quickly grasp technical and governance issues and communicate them effectively to non-technical policymakers.
- Preferred: Proven ability to influence diverse internal and external audiences, communicate effectively, and build strong, trust-based relationships with executive stakeholders.
- Preferred: A history of designing and executing successful policy events, summits, or roundtables that achieve objectives and foster lasting coalitions among officials and experts.
