We are excited to announce an opportunity for a highly motivated and experienced Band 6 Registered Nurse to join the dedicated team at the Aylsham Medical Day Unit (AMDU) within the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. AMDU is a nurse-led service that provides planned care for patients referred from various specialties across the Acute Trust. Since its inception in 2018, the service has expanded significantly, caring for over 11,000 patients in the past year. Our services include blood product transfusions, intravenous iron therapy, outpatient parenteral antimicrobial therapy (OPAT), venesection, day-case biopsies, and paracentesis, as well as day-case heart failure assessment and management.

At AMDU, our patients are at the core of our mission. We are committed to supporting individuals with both acute and chronic conditions, enabling them to remain in their homes whenever possible. Our goal is to prevent unnecessary hospital admissions, facilitate early discharges, promote patient independence, and enhance the overall patient experience.

  • Manage patients with acute and chronic medical conditions, recognizing deterioration and escalating care as necessary.

  • Support the delivery of day-case procedures, ensuring appropriate pre- and post-procedure assessments and monitoring.
  • Coordinate patient flow, treatment schedules, and discharge processes to help avoid unnecessary hospital admissions.
  • Provide clinical advice and support to Band 5 nurses, HCSWs, and students, including delegation and supervision.
  • Liaise closely with consultants, specialist teams, and the wider multidisciplinary team to ensure continuity of care.
  • Promote safe discharge, patient education, and self-management, enabling patients to remain at home where appropriate.
