The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust is looking for a Consultant Radiologist with a special focus on Uroradiology to join our dynamic and growing department. This position will primarily be based at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital, but responsibilities will extend across both hospital locations. All consultants will have dedicated sessions for acute imaging, along with protected time for specialist imaging, preparation, administration, and participation in multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
In this role, you will support the acute hospitals by imaging common acute conditions using plain film, CT, MRI, and ultrasound, ensuring a consistently high standard of care. You will be a vital member of the busy urology MDT, responsible for reporting specialist urology studies, collaborating to enhance patient pathways, and presenting cases at MDT meetings. Your expertise will be crucial in diagnosing and managing various cancers, including renal, bladder, prostate, penile, and testicular cancers.
You will also provide clinical radiology advice to hospital doctors and local GPs, ensuring that patients receive the appropriate tests. Additionally, you will support and guide radiographers and sonographers in improving imaging techniques and will be expected to participate in clinical trials.
Participation in peer review and audit meetings is essential, as is the commitment to using clinical governance mechanisms to continuously enhance our services. You will have the opportunity to develop advanced clinical skills, particularly in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients, and will be expected to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
To qualify for this position, you must hold an MBBS, MBChB, or equivalent medical qualification, along with an FRCR or equivalent. Full registration and a license to practice with the GMC are required, as well as entry on the GMC Specialist Register. You should be confident in a fast-paced MDT environment and have a strong understanding of the diagnosis and management of urological cancers.
The Shrewsbury and Telford Hospital NHS Trust serves approximately half a million people in Shropshire, Telford & Wrekin, and mid Wales, providing a wide range of acute hospital services. We are committed to compassionate care and expect all staff to treat patients, families, and colleagues with dignity, empathy, and respect.
