Join a dynamic team at University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay NHS Trust as a Consultant in Gastroenterology, where you will have the opportunity to work in a supportive environment that fosters innovation and change. This role is based at the Royal Lancaster Infirmary, with responsibilities that include providing comprehensive care for patients with gastrointestinal diseases, participating in a 1 in 8 GI bleeding rota, and conducting endoscopy sessions and clinics.

The department is known for its friendly atmosphere and strong working relationships, with a team comprising eight consultants, two Nurse Consultants, three Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and seven Clinical Nurse Specialists. You will have the chance to develop sub-specialty interests in areas such as Bowel Cancer Screening, IBD, Hepatology, and ERCP/Therapeutic endoscopy.

As part of your role, you will engage in medical education and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels, collaborating with Lancaster Medical School and Health Education England North West to ensure high standards of patient care.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive care for patients with gastrointestinal diseases.
  • Participate in a 1 in 8 GI bleeding rota, which includes a 24/7 service during weekends while on-call.
  • Conduct endoscopy sessions and clinics, as well as cover Cross Bay GI Bleed at various sites.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team, including Nurse Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists.
  • Engage in medical education and training for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in partnership with Lancaster Medical School and Health Education England North West.

Requirements:

  • Must hold full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and possess a license to practice.
  • Entry on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of the interview.
  • Completion of clinical training equivalent to the requirements for gaining CCT in Gastroenterology and General Medicine.
  • JAG accreditation for upper and lower diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
  • Broad exposure to gastrointestinal diseases and management, with the ability to train and supervise junior medical staff and medical students.
