    RMAN-06098: the target database must be mounted when issuing a BACKUP command

    Reason for the Error

    A BACKUP command was issued, but the target database control file is not mounted.

    Solution

    Mount the target database control file by issuing ALTER DATABASE MOUNT via Enterprise Manager or Server Manager.
