An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Surgical Division for a highly motivated and enthusiastic Trainee Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) to join our established Surgical ACP team. This developmental position is designed to support an experienced registered nurse in progressing through a structured ACP training pathway, ultimately working towards a Master’s level qualification and advanced clinical practice competencies.

The successful candidate will receive support to develop the necessary knowledge, skills, and behaviors required to practice autonomously across the four pillars of advanced practice: clinical practice, leadership and management, education, and research. The Surgical ACP team is an integral part of the multidisciplinary workforce, contributing to the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care across various surgical services, including ward-based care, Level 1 surgical ambulatory care, and on-call activities.

Main Duties of the Job

• Work as a trainee ACP while undertaking a 3-year master’s program in Advanced Clinical Practice.
• Gain clinical knowledge and experience by collaborating with doctors, ACP colleagues, and supervisors to assess, diagnose, and treat patients.
• Develop and maintain a personal portfolio of learning to ensure compliance with specialty-specific competencies and demonstrate advanced practice.
• Evaluate patient responses to treatments and make necessary adjustments under supervision.
• Communicate effectively with patients and the Multi-Disciplinary Team (MDT), supporting patients in decision-making and care planning.
• Request and perform simple diagnostic procedures and pathology tests under the guidance of supervisors or physicians.
• Review deteriorating patients and initiate management plans, escalating to medical teams or senior colleagues as needed.
• Act as a role model and advocate for effective leadership and care delivery within the trust.
• Participate in educational activities, mentoring, and coaching to develop the confidence of others.
• Engage in research activities to develop evidence-based strategies that enhance quality and safety in clinical practice.
