In the role of Practice Lead for Future Systems Engineering, you will combine your engineering expertise with commercial insight to guide the direction of Softwire’s services in this area. This position is pivotal in ensuring that our offerings remain relevant and impactful in the evolving landscape of technology.

The Future Systems Engineering practice encompasses various critical areas including technical strategy, architecture, legacy modernization, cloud platform engineering, security architecture, and cost management, primarily serving regulated industries and critical national infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and articulate the Future Systems Engineering service, ensuring its ongoing relevance and alignment with market trends.
• Support business development teams in promoting the service across key sectors such as energy, utilities, financial services, government, and insurance.
• Monitor technology trends, vendor movements, regulatory changes, and client demands to inform strategic decisions.
• Develop innovative approaches and offerings to expand the types of engagements the practice can undertake.
• Lead the systems engineering Community of Practice, sharing best practices and enhancing technical standards across the organization.
• Balance client work and practice development, managing this division independently.
• Engage in early-stage client conversations, discovery sessions, architecture reviews, and workshops to shape client engagements.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with senior client stakeholders to identify additional opportunities for value addition.
• Mentor and coach colleagues in both technical and consultancy skills.

Qualifications

• 8+ years of experience in technical roles, with at least 4 years in a consultancy or agency environment.
• Experience in designing and delivering large-scale systems in challenging environments, with a strong understanding of non-functional requirements.
• Fluency in modern cloud architecture and the ability to communicate its benefits and limitations to clients.
• A working knowledge of AI’s impact on engineering practices.
• Strong commercial acumen and understanding of business drivers and procurement models.
• Ability to navigate ambiguous situations and distill complex stakeholder needs into actionable solutions.
• Excellent consulting and advisory skills, capable of engaging with C-suite executives.
• Experience in pre-sales activities within a consultancy context.
• A desire to build a public profile in systems engineering.
• Demonstrated leadership skills and the ability to inspire teams.
