The position of Modern Matron involves providing clinical leadership and management to the clinical teams within the Live Well and Urgent Emergency Care sectors. The successful candidate will ensure that the highest quality of patient-centered care is delivered by a skilled nursing and midwifery workforce through effective leadership and adherence to professional standards.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver clinical leadership and line management to clinical teams.
  • Support the daily functioning of clinical departments to ensure quality patient care.
  • Monitor and maintain professional standards in collaboration with nursing and midwifery staff.
  • Act as a visible role model and provide assistance to staff, patients, and caregivers.
  • Oversee clinical standards and staff competency, setting objectives and ensuring timelines are met.
  • Participate in the creation and evaluation of the Division’s Annual Business Plan.
  • Coordinate operational planning to achieve Trust and Division objectives.
  • Monitor service delivery and address any issues that arise.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels by assessing patient needs and adjusting duty rosters.
  • Promote best practices and high standards of care within the Trust.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop clinical standards and guidelines.
  • Support clinical governance processes, including incident reporting and risk management.
  • Guide and coach ward and departmental managers in leadership development.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Current NMC or HCPC registration.
  • Qualified in a relevant specialty with a master’s level qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in a senior role with demonstrated leadership and change management skills.
  • Evidence of effective people management and leadership abilities.
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills, capable of making operational decisions.
  • Analytical skills with a broader perspective.
  • Computer literacy and knowledge of budgetary control and clinical governance indicators.
  • Ability to inspire and lead by example, with a flexible approach to work.
