We are expanding Gloucestershire’s Educational Psychology Service and are looking for Educational Psychologists to join our esteemed and growing team. With additional funding secured through to 2027, these roles will support the ongoing development of our consultative model of service delivery, aiming to enhance outcomes for children and young people across the county.

We currently have multiple opportunities available, including both permanent and fixed-term positions, with six two-year fixed-term roles supporting the ‘Experts at Hand’ program. These positions are spread across our four locality bases. We welcome applications from experienced Educational Psychologists as well as those who will be qualifying in Autumn 2027 and Autumn 2028.

As an Educational Psychologist in Gloucestershire, you will engage in a variety of work that extends beyond statutory responsibilities. We value consultative approaches and believe that psychologists are most effective when they can build relationships within schools and educational settings, contribute to workforce development, and apply psychological principles strategically.

All Educational Psychologists will contribute to strategic development areas led by specialists, focusing on mobility and transition, removing barriers to learning, communication and interaction, resilience and emotional wellbeing, and supporting vulnerable groups. This includes involvement in programs such as Mental Health in Schools, ELSA, ELKLAN, and training initiatives for SENCOs.

We seek flexible, creative, and solution-focused Educational Psychologists who are passionate about improving outcomes for children, young people, and their families. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic about the role of educational psychology in facilitating meaningful change and will recognize the importance of both high-quality casework and broader systems-based approaches.

As part of Gloucestershire’s Educational Psychology Service, which is part of STEPS (Specialist Teaching and Educational Psychology Service), you will join a supportive and innovative team of Educational Psychologists and Advisory Teachers. We collaborate closely with schools and SEND specialists across the county to promote child development, learning, and inclusion. Our service is known for its strong consultative approach and commitment to relationship-based practice.

Joining our team means being part of a collaborative environment that values professional growth, innovation, and wellbeing. We offer the chance to work within an expanding Educational Psychology Service, with weekly project and strategic work opportunities as a core part of the role.

We provide managed workloads, career progression opportunities, and a reduced contact area for newly qualified Educational Psychologists. Additionally, we have a robust CPD program, induction, supervision, and peer support, along with dedicated administrative support to allow you to focus on applying psychology effectively.

We also offer a highly competitive reward package, including Soulbury A Scale 5-10 plus 3 SPA points, membership in the Local Government Pension Scheme, generous annual leave, and a welcome package (subject to conditions).

For those interested in learning more, we will host an online open evening via Microsoft Teams on 19 November 2026 at 7 PM. This session will provide insights into the service and allow prospective applicants to engage with Newly Qualified Educational Psychologists about their experiences working in Gloucestershire.

If you believe you have the skills and passion to make a positive impact, please submit your application and personal statement by clicking the ‘Apply Now’ button. For informal discussions about the role or to reserve a spot at the Open Evening, please contact Dr. Matt Baker, Senior Educational Psychologist, at [email protected].

The closing date for applications is 29 November 2026, with interviews scheduled for the week commencing 7 December 2026.

We are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and we expect all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This position is subject to a DBS check, and it is a legal requirement under the Immigration Act 2016 that anyone appointed to a customer-facing role must demonstrate fluency in spoken English.
