The Data Center Controls Engineer position within Google’s Global Data Centers team is a pivotal role that focuses on the design and management of critical control systems. This position is remote eligible from the United Kingdom and requires a blend of technical expertise and leadership skills.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the design, implementation, and troubleshooting of monitoring systems throughout the entire project lifecycle, from initial concept and detailed design to procurement, installation, and ongoing support.
- Develop and maintain technical protocols for managing critical operational data from field systems, providing insights on trends, and managing changes to control and monitoring system design requirements.
- Generate Statements of Work and manage System Integrators (SIs) to ensure timely delivery of controls packages.
- Establish automated testing protocols, logic simulations, and secure network configurations to safely validate system performance.
- Provide technical support to construction teams and Data Center Operations (DCOps) teams to minimize field friction and resolve critical Building Management System (BMS) issues.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- At least 10 years of experience in the design and operation of critical control systems.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience working with mission-critical facilities.
- Experience in bidding, designing, operating, and commissioning PLC/SCADA systems, including instrumentation and input/output interfaces, controller programming, and client/server HMIs and historians.
- Knowledge of design, operation, and commissioning of mission-critical electrical and life safety systems, as well as mechanical systems.
- Familiarity with data center and utility-related infrastructure systems and compliance with relevant codes, regulations, and standards.
