Job Summary
This position is based at Furness General Hospital, with responsibilities including travel to other sites for GI bleed cover and endoscopy sessions. You will be part of a supportive team of eight consultants, along with Nurse Consultants, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and Clinical Nurse Specialists. The department is known for its friendly atmosphere and strong working relationships, allowing for the development of various sub-specialty interests.
Main Duties
- Provide comprehensive care for patients with gastrointestinal diseases.
- Participate in a 1 in 8 GI bleeding rota, which includes a 24/7 service during weekends while on-call.
- Conduct endoscopy sessions and clinics, including cross-site travel to provide GI bleed cover.
- Collaborate with a team of eight consultants, two Nurse Consultants, three Advanced Nurse Practitioners, and seven Clinical Nurse Specialists.
- Engage in medical education and training for both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in partnership with Lancaster Medical School and Health Education England North West.
Requirements
- Must hold full registration with the General Medical Council (GMC) and possess a license to practice.
- Entry on the Specialist Register or be within six months of obtaining a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) at the time of interview.
- Experience in Gastroenterology and General Medicine equivalent to UK CCT requirements.
- JAG accreditation for upper and lower diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy.
- Broad exposure to gastrointestinal diseases and the ability to manage patients effectively.
- Capability to train and supervise junior medical staff and medical students.
