We invite applications from State Registered Clinical Scientists in Genomics to join the North Thames Rare Disease Genomics Laboratory at Great Ormond Street Hospital. We are looking for enthusiastic and self-motivated scientists with experience in clinical genomics service delivery and a solid understanding of genomic techniques, including variant assessment. Strong communication and organizational skills are essential for this role.

The GOSH Genomics Laboratory comprises around 180 professionals, including Technologists, Clinical Scientists, Translational Scientists, Bioinformaticians, and Administrative Support staff. Together with two Clinical Genetics Teams, we form a strategic Genetics Unit that provides a Regional Genetics Service for North London, serving a population of approximately 10 million. Our laboratory offers an in-house diagnostic service for pediatric and inherited cancer, molecular and cytogenetic testing, in line with the NHS England Genomic Test Directory.

We provide genomic testing for both prenatal and postnatal samples using various methodologies, including SNP microarray, karyotyping, FISH, qPCR, MLPA, and next-generation sequencing. Additionally, we are involved in the NHSE GMS Whole Genome Sequencing programme for our North Thames patients and engage in collaborative research projects with the UCL Institute of Child Health and Institute of Neurology.

We are committed to recruiting the best candidates through a fair and unbiased process. We strive to create an anti-racist organization where every colleague feels valued and respected. Our commitment to diversity is reflected in our active staff networks, including REACH, PRIDE, ENABLED, and Women’s Networks, which foster an inclusive culture.

To qualify for this position, candidates must have a First or Second Class Degree in Molecular Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry, or a related subject, along with an HCPC Clinical Scientist Registration Certificate. Extensive knowledge of clinical genomics and a proven track record in diagnostic service delivery are essential. Candidates should also have significant postgraduate experience in a clinical genomics laboratory and be skilled in molecular genetics and/or cytogenetic techniques.

The salary for this position ranges from £58,133 to £65,261 per year, and the role is offered on a permanent basis with full-time working hours. We support flexible and partially remote working arrangements.

Applications from individuals requiring Skilled Worker sponsorship to work in the UK are welcome and will be considered alongside all other applications. For further details, please refer to the UK Visas and Immigration website.
