F# enters the Top 20 Languages, Lua, and Objective-C move upwards

Every time, i write a post on the programming language ranking, i end up asking, “Do the ranking matter”? Not really, but it is a way to know that there exists more languages and sometimes helps you find out which programming language is searched more etc…

TIOBE Programming Community Index is just that. It is not about which language is best but instead it is based on factors as described below

“The TIOBE Programming Community index is an indicator of the popularity of programming languages. The index is updated once a month. The ratings are based on the number of skilled engineers worldwide, courses, and third party vendors. The popular search engines Google, Bing, Yahoo!, Wikipedia, YouTube, and Baidu are used to calculate the ratings. Observe that the TIOBE index is not about the best programming language or the language in which most lines of code have been written.”

TIOBE has announced its August results of the Programming Community Index which describes that F# , a functional language from Microsoft enters the Top 20 languages for the first time . The Language F# was also included in the Visual Studio 2010, the latest of the IDE from Microsoft for .NET Developers

To be frank, the name of these languages was known to me via the TIOBE index 🙂

The Other interesting things that were noticed in this edition of the TIOBE Index were

  1. C#, Lua and Objective-C were seen in upward trend in the Top 10 languages
  2. Lua, Transact-SQL, Ada, F# were seen in huge trending opportunities
  3. Java, C, C++, and PHP still retains the Top 4 places
