This position for a Theatre Practitioner is based in Ilford and is a full-time, permanent role requiring 37.5 hours of work per week. The working schedule spans over four days within a seven-day period, which may include weekends. Standard shifts typically run from 07:30 to 17:30, with some flexibility needed based on patient requirements.

The Theatre Practitioner will play a crucial role in providing patient-centered care throughout the ophthalmic pathway, which encompasses pre-admission, diagnostics, surgical assistance, and post-operative recovery. The successful candidate will work in a high-volume theatre environment, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure efficient theatre operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient-centered care across the entire ophthalmic pathway.
  • Scrub and assist in a high-volume theatre environment.
  • Provide compassionate support to patients and their families.
  • Assist surgeons during ophthalmic procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with AfPP good practice guidelines while providing scrub support.
  • Prepare clinical areas for daily activities.
  • Manage patient admissions and discharges on theatre days.
  • Engage in departmental audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills in a team-oriented environment.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Registered practitioner with the NMC or HCPC.
  • Previous experience in a clinical or theatre setting, especially with high-volume procedures, is preferred.
  • Desire to develop clinical skills through ongoing training and professional development.
  • Prior experience with patient discharge processes is advantageous.
  • Strong commitment to excellent patient care and a positive work environment.
  • Proactive and flexible approach to teamwork, with a readiness to support service improvements.
  • Ability to remain calm and focused in a fast-paced, patient-centered environment.
  • Familiarity with infection prevention and control protocols.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance frameworks and CQC standards.
