| Job Type | Full Time |
| Location | Manchester |
We are seeking experienced software engineers to join our team in Manchester, where you will play a crucial role in developing tools that will transform performance evaluation and analysis on Arm platforms. Our team is responsible for building Arm’s Telemetry solution, which includes a suite of open-source reference tools that illustrate Arm’s performance methodologies across various compute subsystems, including CPUs, interconnects, and memory systems. You will collaborate with architects from different Arm IP groups to translate their methodologies into practical tools, enabling Arm’s internal performance teams, partners, and the broader open-source community to benefit from your work.
At Arm, we value curiosity and the willingness to learn. We understand that not every candidate will meet all the criteria, and we encourage you to apply even if you don’t check every box. We provide time for you to ramp up on unfamiliar languages and technology stacks, such as kernel performance subsystems, TypeScript/JavaScript, and SQL. As an engineer, you will typically own larger features from start to finish, allowing you to develop deep expertise in your area of focus. Our collaborative environment fosters teamwork, where code design and review are conducted collectively.
Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance the Telemetry solution to enable developers to implement performance methodologies on Arm platforms and respond to performance signals.
- Collaborate with architects and analysis teams to convert findings and requirements into features, tests, examples, and documentation.
- Validate performance methodologies using synthetic workloads and targeted microbenchmarks, occasionally utilizing Arm assembly.
- Work alongside kernel and firmware teams to ensure the availability and usability of performance-measurement primitives such as PMUs and perf_event interfaces.
Required Skills and Experience
- Proficient in Python for developing tools, processing data, and automating workflows.
- Comfortable with C/C++ to understand low-level performance systems in both kernel and user space.
- Strong debugging and problem-solving capabilities.
- Experience in delivering developer-facing tools and iterating based on user feedback.
- Proven track record of owning complex features from conception to completion.
Nice To Have Skills and Experience
- Familiarity with SQL (e.g., SQLite) for trace querying and analysis.
- Experience with web technologies (TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, WebSocket) for developing static web applications.
- Exposure to hardware system architecture, including pipelines, caches, MMUs, interconnects, timers, and multithreading.
- Contributions to open-source projects and experience with modern CI/CD practices.
- Good understanding of operating system primitives and their impact on application performance.
- Basic knowledge of assembly language and familiarity with Arm architecture.
In Return
You will have the opportunity to learn about and influence the latest Arm architecture features, working closely with highly skilled engineering teams on groundbreaking technology. You will collaborate with diverse compiler and runtime teams and open-source communities, contributing to language implementations used by millions of developers worldwide. You will be empowered to continually identify and roll out improvements to our ways of working.
