Infrastructure Engineer Linux Overview

Fractile is on a mission to revolutionize the hardware that powers advanced AI systems, aiming to enhance the speed and efficiency of output generation. We are currently looking for an Infrastructure Engineer specializing in Linux to join our team and support the foundational compute, storage, and networking infrastructure essential for our silicon development workloads.

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and troubleshoot a fleet of on-premise Linux servers, specifically those running Rocky or RHEL.
• Support the deployment and maintenance of on-premise compute infrastructure utilizing infrastructure-as-code tools such as Ansible.
• Assist in monitoring and observability by setting up and maintaining tools for resource utilization, service health, and machine failures, including Prometheus, node_exporter, Grafana, and Zabbix.
• Diagnose and resolve networking issues including DNS, VLANs, bonding, and routing, as well as storage issues related to network filesystems, capacity management, and performance troubleshooting.
• Support the daily operations of a cluster compute/job scheduling environment, such as Slurm.
• Assist with user and identity management tasks, including onboarding and access provisioning using FreeIPA or LDAP.
• Document infrastructure changes and contribute to the creation of runbooks and playbooks.
• Collaborate with engineers across the organization to identify and resolve infrastructure-related bottlenecks.

Requirements

• 2-3+ years of hands-on experience in production Linux system administration.
• Proficient in monitoring solutions such as Prometheus, Grafana, Zabbix, or similar tools.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, VLANs, routing, and basic troubleshooting.
• Good grasp of storage concepts, including network filesystems, parallel/distributed filesystems, disk/volume management, and basic performance troubleshooting.
• Comfortable using the command line and scripting languages like Bash or Python for task automation.
• A methodical and inquisitive approach to troubleshooting, with the ability to quickly learn new tools and technical areas.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of problems until resolution.
