This role is designed for a Graduate Teaching Assistant within the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow. The successful candidate will play a vital role in enhancing the student experience by engaging in various teaching, assessment, and administrative responsibilities primarily at the undergraduate level.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the planning, organization, and delivery of undergraduate teaching programs.
  • Conduct various teaching and assessment activities aimed at undergraduate subjects.
  • Engage in course administration tasks, ensuring timely communication, marking, and providing constructive feedback.
  • Help develop teaching materials that align with established learning objectives.
  • Utilize learning technologies to enhance course delivery, organization, and assessment, including online platforms like Moodle.
  • Apply specialized knowledge to cater to the diverse needs of students, promoting participation and achievement.
  • Participate in the assessment process using multiple methods, including oral assessments, and provide timely feedback to support student learning.
  • Supervise student projects and practical work, offering guidance on skills and techniques.
  • Engage in professional development activities as necessary.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Head of School.
  • Contribute to enhancing the University’s international profile in accordance with its Strategic Plan.

Qualifications

  • Possess an Honours degree (SCQF Level 10) relevant to the teaching area or have expertise in a related field.
  • Be registered for and pursuing a PhD (MPhil/PhD) or PGT qualification in a relevant subject.

Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

  • Demonstrate expert knowledge in the subject area.
  • Have experience in delivering support to undergraduate or postgraduate students in various learning environments.
  • Experience in supervising, mentoring, or teaching students in practical settings.
  • Relevant administrative experience, such as student support or course administration.
  • Exhibit excellent communication and presentation skills.
  • Proficient in using IT and relevant software to support teaching and learning.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team.
  • Capable of meeting deadlines.
  • Commitment to the University’s values and professional standards.
