Director, Networks and AI Overview

We are seeking a Director of Networks and AI to join Liberty Global in London. This role presents a unique opportunity to influence the future of network strategy and the adoption of AI across our telecommunications businesses. You will collaborate with operating companies and central teams to drive the development of network and AI strategies, technology roadmaps, and governance frameworks that enhance service quality, network performance, and operational excellence.

Your key responsibilities will include:

• Developing and implementing network and AI strategies, architecture principles, and technology roadmaps in partnership with senior leaders and operating companies.
• Establishing and leading governance frameworks to ensure the identification, prioritization, and implementation of high-value network and AI initiatives.
• Integrating AI and machine learning into network planning, operations, optimization, and maintenance.
• Identifying, assessing, and scaling AI use cases that improve network performance, incident response, capacity planning, and operational effectiveness.
• Ensuring a safe and governed approach to AI adoption, focusing on ownership, auditability, human oversight, and production controls.
• Partnering with Security, Data, and AI governance teams to manage risks associated with AI deployment.
• Evaluating technology partners and vendor capabilities to support informed investment and technology decisions.
• Building strong partnerships across operating companies and central teams to promote consistent standards and ways of working.

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

• Essential experience in applying AI, machine learning, or AIOps within network planning, engineering, or operations in a telecommunications environment.
• Strong knowledge of network architecture, including 5G standalone, radio access networks, and AI-enabled network operations.
• Understanding of AI governance, model lifecycle management, telemetry, data pipelines, and production deployment practices.
• Ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear recommendations for senior stakeholders.
• Experience in defining technical standards and supporting their adoption across multiple business entities.
• Strong stakeholder management, communication, and influencing skills.
• Inclusive leadership approach with the ability to work effectively across different teams, countries, and cultures.
• Ability to navigate ambiguity and adapt to changing business priorities.

Desirable qualifications include familiarity with AI observability, model evaluation, and agent tracing tools, experience with hyperscaler AI platforms, and a commercial understanding of broadband, mobile, and digital communications markets.

A degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, or a related discipline is preferred, along with professional certifications or continued learning in AI, machine learning, MLOps, or AI safety.
