Insert a static date or time into an Excel cell
- To insert the current date, press Ctrl+; (semi-colon).
- To insert the current time, press Ctrl+Shift+; (semi-colon).
- To insert the current date and time, press Ctrl+; (semi-colon), then press Space, and then press Ctrl+Shift+; (semi-colon).

The TODAY function takes no arguments and is surrounded by empty brackets. The current date is displayed when you input the TODAY function in a cell. The date will be updated each time the worksheet is recalculated or viewed. The TODAY function merely inserts the date; it does not include the time.
