According to Wikipedia, Microsoft Word was launched to the unwary public on October 25, 1983. It has now reached version 14. Not that there have been 14 different versions. In the 1980s and 1990s, there were irregularities in the numbering (versions 1, 2, and then 6).

Finally, the decision is based on the apps and services required to fulfill the task. If you intend to use Office for many years, Microsoft 365 is by far the best alternative. The rationale for this is that you will get full access to the apps and perks with the subscription at a cheap cost of ownership.

The desktop version, which is accessible for PCs running Windows and macOS, is the original and most extensively used version. Microsoft also maintains a mobile presence.
