I want to use the AVERAGE function in Excel to calculate the average of a range of numbers. What is the syntax for the AVERAGE function in Excel and how do I use it to calculate the average of a range of numbers?
- Click a cell below, or to the right, of the numbers for which you want to find the average.
 - On the Home tab, in the Editing group, click the arrow next to. AutoSum , click Average, and then press Enter.
 
Select the cell where you want the result to appear. Type average in the cell. Select the range of numbers that you want to calculate by clicking and dragging over the cells containing those numbers. Type after the range of cells that you selected previously. Press enter to complete.
