In PowerPoint 2013, there is no direct “pinning” feature to permanently keep an item in place. However, you can achieve a similar effect by using a combination of locking and grouping objects. Here’s how you can do it:
- Open your PowerPoint presentation and navigate to the slide where you want to pin an item.
- Insert the item you want to pin. It could be a shape, image, or any other object.
- Arrange the item in the desired position on the slide.
- Select the item by clicking on it. You should see selection handles around the object.
- Right-click on the selected item, and from the context menu, choose the “Size and Position” option. A dialog box will appear.
- In the “Size and Position” dialog box, go to the “Position” tab.
- Take note of the current position values for both the horizontal (X) and vertical (Y) coordinates. You will need these values later.
- Click on the “OK” button to close the dialog box.
- Now, select the item again by clicking on it.
- Right-click on the selected item and choose the “Group” option from the context menu. Then select “Group” again to group the item.
- With the grouped item still selected, press the “Ctrl” key on your keyboard and click on the slide’s background to deselect the item. This ensures that only the grouped item is selected.
- Right-click on the grouped item and choose the “Save as Picture” option from the context menu. Save the picture to a location on your computer.
- After saving the picture, you can delete the grouped item from the slide.
- Now, go to the slide where you want to permanently pin the item.
- Insert an image placeholder by going to the “Insert” tab, clicking on the “Pictures” button, and selecting “Picture Placeholder” from the dropdown menu.
- Resize the image placeholder to fit the dimensions of the picture you saved earlier.
- Right-click on the image placeholder and choose the “Format Picture” option from the context menu.
- In the Format Picture pane, go to the “Picture” tab and click on the “Insert Picture” button.
- Locate and select the picture you saved in Step 12.
- The picture will now appear inside the image placeholder. Resize and position it as needed.
By following these steps, you have effectively pinned the item to the slide by converting it into an image and placing it inside an image placeholder. The image placeholder acts as a frame, keeping the item in place. If you want to make any changes to the item, you can edit the original object, save it as a picture again, and update the picture inside the image placeholder.
